Ukrainian Portraits is a personal sketch series about people who shaped Ukrainian culture, science, and history in different ways.
In this project, I drew figures like Lesia Ukrainka, Ivan Bahrianyi, Maria Prymachenko, Mykola Amosov, Les Kurbas, Leonid Kadenyuk, Oleksandr Murashko, Solomiya Krushelnytska, Volodymyr Vernadsky, and Sofia Okunevska.
I started this series as a way to take part in the Instagram challenge #oneweek100people and to spend more time sketching, but it quickly became something more meaningful. It’s my way of reconnecting with Ukrainian heritage and learning more about these personalities through drawing. I’m not trying to create perfect or overly polished portraits — I’m more interested in capturing a feeling, a presence, something human behind each figure.
